Packages Exist Because Sequencing Is the Hard Part
The hard part is rarely choosing the service. It is choosing the order. Why we group work by stage, and how to tell which stage your business is in.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Wasted budget rarely comes from buying the wrong service. It comes from buying a good one too early. Grouping work into five stages, from diagnosis to growth, makes the order the default instead of a lesson learned late.
A menu of services assumes the buyer already knows the diagnosis. That is a large assumption, and when it is wrong the invoice still arrives. Brand work before positioning is settled gets redone. Performance spend before the funnel converts buys expensive proof that the funnel does not convert.
Stage beats service
- Clarity Diagnostic: you can feel that something is off but cannot name it. Buy clarity before capability.
- Positioning & Story: the problem is named; the positioning, story and offer need to be decided and written down.
- Brand Operating System: the decision exists and the machinery does not. Website, commerce, automation, content engine.
- Network Activation: the machinery exists but the specialists, channels and partners are not wired to it.
- Growth & Measurement: it works; now it needs measurement, iteration and the discipline to stop what is only busy.
Buying the right thing at the wrong time is still buying the wrong thing.
Can we skip straight to the build if we already know what we want?
Often yes. If positioning is settled, the audience is evidenced and someone owns the decision, we can scope the build directly. We will still spend a short session confirming those three things, because rebuilding later is more expensive than checking now.
Are packages fixed price?
The Clarity Diagnostic is fixed scope and fixed price because its shape is predictable, and Positioning & Story is fixed scope. The build is scoped from the blueprint, since honest pricing needs to know what is being built. Network Activation runs per project or on retainer, and Growth & Measurement on a monthly retainer.
Can we combine stages?
Yes. Adjacent stages pair naturally, which is why the usual combinations exist: The Reset joins diagnosis and positioning, Launchpad joins positioning and the build, and the Full Operating System runs all five in order. What we avoid is running a build and a diagnosis at the same time, because the diagnosis keeps invalidating the build.
How do we tell which stage we are in?
Read the five stages from the top and ask whether each one's work is already done and written down: is the problem named, is the position decided, does the machinery exist, are the right specialists wired in? The first honest no is your stage; if every answer is yes, you are in Growth & Measurement.
